Whether you own an SUV, a truck or a car. Whether it’s a hatchback, a sedan, crossover or coupe. If you’ve owned your automobile for any length of time, chances are that you’ll likely see some forms of rusting. The rust may happen overtly, on the outside of the bonnet, the door panels or the roof. Rusting occurs as a process known as oxidation. Without getting too technical, oxidation happens as a chemical reaction set off when moisture and dampness meets iron, steel and metal components of a vehicle. This reaction produces two very visible impacts on the vehicle:
- Physically: The rusted component – be it a tiny screw, a hub cap or the entire hood or door – weakens as a result of rusting. As you use the automobile through the rusting cycle, without treating the cause of the rust, the physical degradation continues, even to the extent that it may evolve into a health and safety issue
- Aesthetically: Rust turns anything it touches into a dirty brown color. Imagine a bright red automobile, shiny in all respects, except with a tiny dirty brown patch on the hood.
