The drying and curing time for Rust Bullet coatings depends on several factors, including the specific number of coats, temperature, humidity, and airflow. Here’s a general breakdown:
Touch Dry Time
- 2–6 hours between coats under normal conditions (70°F / 21°C and 50% relative humidity).
- Lower humidity will slow drying.
Recoat Window
- 2–6 hours is ideal. Dry to the touch with no paint transfer to gloved finger.
- If more than 12 hours passes before recoating, allow 24 hours dry time before lightly scuffing with 80-100 grit sandpaper to create profile for adhesion of a subsequent coat.
Handling / Light Use
- 24 hours after final coat under ideal conditions. Surface is dry to the touch and my be carefully handled or sanded for additional coats.
- 72 hours after final coat, safe for light foot traffic, furniture, or tools.
- Avoid heavy use, dragging or cleaning until full cure is reached.
Full Cure / Chemical Resistance / Heavy Use
- 7–10 days is recommended for full mechanical and chemical resistance.
- For moisture-cured urethanes, full cure continues over time as the coating reacts with ambient moisture.
Submersion / Water Exposure (pools, marine, etc.)
- Allow at least 7–10 days of cure time after final coat before water exposure.
- Longer is better, especially if temperature is under 70°F or humidity is low.
