Weatherometer Test

Method:

The first test performed at National Testing Standards, Inc. was the Weatherometer, ASTM G153. The Weatherometer device uses a combination of carbon arc UV radiation and water spray to simulate destructive weather conditions in an accelerated manner. Although precise equivalents are impossible to determine, a practical calculation is: 300 hours in the Weatherometer equals one year real time. All ten of the test panels were exposed to 168 hours of accelerated weathering in an Atlas Weatherometer, model 18W type HH. The apparatus and operation was in accordance with the procedures set forth in ASTM G153.

Results:

None of the nine coated test panels exhibited any degradation of the integrity of the coating. The uncoated control panel exhibited light surface rusting.
