Thermal Shock Chamber Test

Method:

The next device to be used is the Thermal Shock Chamber, ASTM D2337. This is simply a temperature control device in which temperature can be raised or lowered over a controlled period of time. For purposes of our testing, we started with an upper temperature of 160ºF (71ºC), and lowered the temperature to -20ºF (-29ºC). Two cycles were performed, each consisting of 3 hours. This is done to simulate the extreme conditions found in nature and as a means of inducing coating failure.
